Hando is a Mijikenda cultural female dressing that is worn by ladies instead of the modern skirt.
It is simply a collection of several pieces of clothes usually in red, black and white color hanging freely on a string which are then tied round the waist supported by a string to create firm body contact. The upper part is usually covered with a piece of kanga that is tied across the chest to act as breast holder. To promote our culture we have decided to take this dressing a mile by organizing the so called Miss Hando beauty contest that attracted many young girls from all over the county.
This years event was held between the 18th and 20th days of April at Malindi heritage complex and attracted many visitors both local and international. The best contestant was crowned Princess Hando 2014.
